ABOUT DENTAL IMPLANTS
What To Expect For Your Procedure
What To Expect
- During an outpatient surgical procedure, dental implants are placed into a patient’s jawbone. They are usually made of a composite crown and a titanium base.
- After the titanium root is implanted and has healed for an appropriate amount of time, an artificial yet realistic crown is attached to the root.
- The implant will, over time, fuse to the patient’s bone and provide a secure base for the teeth, which eliminates the need for removable dentures.
- The healing time is minimal, usually 3 – 4 weeks, unless the patient’s bone requires grafting. In that case, additional bone is added to the jaw before the implants are placed, resulting in a stronger base for the dental implant and a longer healing time.
Dental implants do not require special cleaning or care procedures. Implants should be brushed and flossed just like natural teeth, ensuring a long-lasting solution for missing teeth.
